These yummy finger-food appetizers make a great late night snack or fun
dinnertime accompaniment. These are just like the cheese sticks served in a
restaurant, with the convenience of home.
Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 tbsp. water
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1-1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. pepper
12 sticks string cheese*
3 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1 cup marinara or spaghetti sauce
Directions:
In a small bowl, beat eggs and water. In a plastic bag, combine bread
crumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and pepper. Coat cheese sticks in
flour, then dip in egg mixture and bread crumb mixture. Repeat egg and
bread crumb coatings. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours, or
overnight
(this step is very important, or the cheese will melt and flatten during
baking).
Place on an ungreased baking sheet; drizzle with melted butter. Bake,
uncovered, at 400º for 6 to 8 minutes or until heated through. Allow to
stand 3 minutes before serving. Use marinara or spaghetti sauce for
dipping. Bottled or homemade seafood sauce is also nice with these.
Yield: 4 appetizer servings.
