Apple Pie Cake

1/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
2 1/2 cups diced apples
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons hot water

Combine ingredients in order given. (Batter will be thick.) Bake in a greased 9-inch pie pan for 45 minutes at 350F. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
