Applesauce Spice Bars

Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon soda water
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup brown sugar packed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup applesauce
1 egg

Frosting Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon milk

Instructions
Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 13x9 inch pan. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and spread in pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool and frost with frosting, then cut into bars. For frosting, heat butter in saucepan until delicate brown. Blend in remaining ingredients and beat until frosting is smooth. Spread on cake.
