Orange Alaska

4 medium orange -- halved
1 cup orange sherbet -- softened
8 ounces low fat orange yogurt
1/2 teaspoon orange peel -- finely grated
1/2 cup orange juice
2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons sugar
Use sharp knife to scallop edges of orange halves if desired. Remove pulp and
reserve for another use. In medium bowl, combine sherbet, yogurt, orange peel,
and lemon juice; freeze till just firm, stirring occasionally. Spoon into orange
shells. Cover; freeze up to 1 month. At serving time, preheat broiler. In a
small bowl, beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and vanilla with electric mixer on
medium till soft peaks form (tips curl). Gradually add sugar, beating on high
till stiff peaks form. Spread over frozen mixture, sealing well to tops of
orange halves. Broil 4-5" from heat for 2-4 minutes or till light brown. Serve
immediately.
