You can save energy by the way you wash
your clothes with these tips:
Washing machines that heat their own water (i.e. connected to cold water only)
will use more energy than those connected to an off-peak electric or gas hot
water service.
An overloaded or over-sudsed machine uses more energy and does not clean
efficiently.
Try to wash only when you have a full
load. If you need to wash a partial load, adjust the water level accordingly.
Try to use either cold or lukewarm water.
Front loading machines can be up to 15% more efficient than top loading
machines. In general they operate with lower water consumption, high speed spin
dry and a gentle washing action.
Use a lower wash temperature or economy wash (this uses existing hot water) and
do not under fill - wash full loads whenever possible! Use energy and water as
efficiently as possible.
