High Plains Hickory Pie

Pecans and walnuts are favorites of cowboys of all sizes. A great dessert is
this pecan pie which can be cooked in a modern oven at home or a Dutch
oven if out camping.
Ingredients:
2 cups walnuts or pecans chopped
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup corn syrup or molasses
3 large eggs, beaten
1 cup honey or maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 single pastry pie crust
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Blend cream, molasses or corn syrup, honey or maple syrup, salt, vanilla extract
and butter.
Mix well fold in nuts and pour into the pie crust.
Bake 10 minutes then reduce heat to 350.
Continue cooking 25-30 minutes or until a broom straw inserted in center comes
out clean.
Pie will rise at first, but will settle as it comes from oven and cools.
