1 pound ground chuck
1 pound ground cooked ham
1 (8-ounce) carton sour cream
¼ cup finely chopped onion
¾ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Hickory-flavored barbecue sauce (we tested with KC Masterpiece)
8 slices American cheese
8 hamburger buns, toasted
Sliced tomato
Sliced sweet pickles
Lettuce
Sliced onion
Combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl; shape into 8 patties. (Mixture will
be sticky.) Grill patties, uncovered, over medium-hot coals (350º to 400º) 4 to
5 minutes on each side or until beef is no longer pink, basting often with
barbecue sauce. Top patties with cheese during last 2 to 3 minutes of grilling
time. Serve on buns. Tip with tomato slices, pickles, lettuce, and onion. Yield:
8 sandwiches.
