Irish Apple Pastry

This recipe came from my husband's grandmother on the Brosnihan farm in North
Brookfield, Massachusetts. My husband's mother, Katherine Brosnihan Flanagan,
made it with love for her family and passed down the recipe to me. - Beth

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 Tablespoons Crisco shortening
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar
2/3 cup milk
Mixture for filling:
2-1/2 cups chopped apples
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
Frosting:
2 Tablespoons hot water
1-1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening until mixture is
the consistency of small peas. Add milk. Then roll out on well floured board to
1/2-inch thickness. Spread with filling mixture. Fold sides over and seal. Bake
at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
Combine frosting ingredients. Spread it on pastry while hot. |
