Oat Crust Apple Pie
Crust:
1 cup rolled oats
2 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup liquid shortening
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix all above ingredients together and pat 1/2 of mixture in the pie pan for the bottom crust.
Filling:
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup white sugar
2 tbsp. corn starch
1 cup water
Cook the above until it comes to a boil, stirring constantly, and then simmer for five minutes.
Cut 6 cups apple slices, put in liquid and cook for five minutes.
Pour mixture into crust and put the top on with the remaining ingredients.
Bake at 350° for about 1 hour.
Use a pie juice saber under crust. I am not sure what that means.
