Old Fashioned Syrup Cake With Sorghum

1/2 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sorghum-(If you substitute molasses, it's not as good)
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice

Preheat oven to 350.
Grease and flour a 9" X 13" X 2" pan.
In large bowl, cream brown sugar and butter.
Add syrup and beat well.
Combine flour, salt and spices.
Mix lightly.
Slowly add to batter and beat well.
Pour into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
This is best served warm, plain, with ice cream, or just plain powdered sugar.

It is very light and good. Sorghum Cake Addenda: There should have been 1 cup hot water in the recipe. When I was making one today, I knew it was not right. 1 cup hot water with the soda mixed in and then add to the creamed mixture, then the rest is OK. I am so sorry about this mistake.
