French Doughnuts

"These are really muffins with a raspberry center and a nutmeg flavor."

5 Tbsp butter
1/2 Cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 Cup milk
1 1/2 Cups flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
raspberry jam (for center)

1/2 Cup melted butter
1/2 Cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk, and mix well. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Divide batter into 2 equal portions. Using 1 portion, spoon an equal amount into each greased muffin cup. In center of batter, place 1 teaspoon jam for large muffins, 1/2 teaspoon for small muffins. Cover with remaining batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool in pan 5 minutes. Turn out. Roll tops in melted butter and sugar, mixed with cinnamon. Yields 12 to 15 large muffins and 30 to 36 small muffins.
